Minister Van der Hoeven to visit Angola

Minister Maria van der Hoeven of Economic Affairs will be visiting Angola from Sunday 29 March to Wednesday 1 April. The objective of the Minister’s visit is to further strengthen the strong economic ties between the Netherlands and Angola. A major element is the cooperation between the two countries in energy matters, especially in the light of Minister Van der Hoeven’s ambition to make the Netherlands the ‘gas roundabout’ of North-West Europe. If that ambition is to be achieved, tankers carrying LNG (liquefied natural gas) must put in at a Dutch port. Angola will soon become a major producer of natural gas and will be able to play a role in the supply of LNG to North-West Europe from tankers putting in at a Dutch port. Minister Van der Hoeven: “Both Angola and the Netherlands have a great deal to gain from improving their economic ties in relation to energy, infrastructure, ports and trade and investment. I’m expecting a lot from the visit of Dutch companies to Angola this week”.

During her visit, Minister Van der Hoeven will hold talks with a number of Angolan fellow ministers, including the oil minister – and current President of OPEC – Botelho de Vasconcelos, the economic minister Nunes Júnior and the transport minister Da Silva Tomás. She and Minister Nunes Júnior will also open a corporate seminar in Luanda which will be attended by a delegation from some thirty Dutch companies and their Angolan counterparts. The company representatives are also using this visit to Angola to make trade and investment contacts. Together with Dutch companies from the energy sector, Minister Van der Hoeven will also be taking part in a roundtable meeting with representatives of Angolan universities and the state-owned company Sonangol regarding education in relation to the gas and oil industry. The Minister will also be visiting the Soyo LNG facility.
